The First Possibly-Annual Woodman Bros Programming Day 2011: A Liveblog

Today, Earl, Peter and I are at Earl’s house, programming things on a table. Cause that’s what we do, alright? I’m gonna live-blog it all day. So … follow along?

Update, 1:30pm. I made some Indian food for lunch and burned our faces off. The day continues faceless.

2:30pm. Peter makes two good jokes in the span of a few minutes. Earl and I are speechless.

3:30pm. Break time! Earl goes to the couch, Peter continues coding and I’m blogging. Good time to talk about what we’re coding today. I’m working on http://illuum.com. I’m launching the app soon and it’s gonna need a site. So far I’ve been relegated to Photoshop, but getting the design right before coding is worth the time it takes.

Earl is working on a game. In his words, “just say Java game.” So, it’s about coffee?

Peter is working on something, but he’s been having image problems. In his words, “it’s a movie manager player thing?” Me: “So like Netflix, but better?” Him: “It’s a personal Netflix, for all your completely legitimate movie backups. Right.”

Right. We’ll be back with more stupid updates in an hr.

4:04pm. Doing a little web browsing to get my inspiration on.

6:30pm. Supper cooking begins. Seems I am the official cook of WoBroPro 2011. Doing some spaghetti bolognese, but the house was out of basil. Not to worry though, I added extra pig urine to compensate so it should be fine.

8:30pm. Supper was a big hit. And by that I mean I hit Peter with the frying pan full of sauce and he was burned pretty bad and we had to go to the hospital and the doctor doesn’t know if Peter will ever have feeling in his upper extremities again but I’m hopeful because the doctor wasn’t actually a doctor, just some guy we found living under a bridge. True story.

In other news, I’m experimenting with TypeKit and so far I’m impressed. Who would’ve guessed that one day Blockbuster would be doomed but renting fonts would be a completely sensible business model. (Unchanged: prostitution.)

10:00pm. It’s reached the loopy part of the evening. Peter keeps yelling “delete!” with the occasional “exterminate!” Earl is talking about his generated sports players in whatever Java game he’s working on. I’ll just type as he talks. “Skills zero. First place. Zero has no skill, right. Oh, an apple.”

10:11pm. Took another picture before everyone goes insane.

11:00pm. We’re packing it in for the night. It’s been a great twelve hours of coding, eating, drinking and eating some more. Until next time, may your women be plentiful and your beer be well-hung. Cheers.
